CUSTOM FRAMING PT/FT JOB DESCRIPTION
A retail picture framer consults with customers on custom framing, advises on materials (mats, glass, wood), measures and cuts materials using specialized tools, assembles frames, mounts artwork securely (photos, art, 3D items), operates POS, maintains the store, and ensures quality and customer satisfaction, blending artistic eye with technical craft for both sales and production.
Key Responsibilities:
Customer Consultation: Engage customers to understand their framing needs, offering design advice on color, style, and materials.
Design & Sales: Recommend suitable frame styles, glass types (e.g., conservation), and mats; provide quotes and timelines.
Production: Measure, cut, assemble, and finish frames using tools like mitre cutters; mount artwork with glass and backing. Maintain a clean and organized work area.
Technical Skills: Handle various items (photos, textiles, 3D objects), potentially perform dry mounting, and apply finishes like gilding.
Retail Operations: Operate cash registers, handle sales transactions, stock shelves, maintain store appearance, and ensure a positive shopping environment.
Quality Control: Ensure all framed items meet high-quality standards and are completed accurately and on time.
Essential Skills & Traits:
Strong customer service & communication.
Attention to detail & eye for design/color.
Basic carpentry/hand tool proficiency.
Ability to learn specific machinery (mat cutters, joiners).
Positivity and teamwork.
